David Goes Back for Round 2 of the Ventura Marathon
For the second time, I laced up the old road runners with a few buddies and gave pavement running another shot. I’ve never really been the road running type, but since it’s my home race, I figured I’d represent KETL out there.
Just like before, the first 20 miles mostly breeze by. But at mile 20, the mental halfway point, the pain really starts to set in.
Right around the 4-hour pace, people started dropping like flies. Cramps, dehydration, the heat taking its toll. Still, we kept moving and crossed the finish line.
All in all, I think I’ve decided my runs are best served on dirt from here on out. But no regrets giving it another shot. Nothing hits quite like a finish line shoey through the ripped toe of your road runners’ last dance.
