I recently took a family camping trip to Mammoth Lakes, CA, and it was one of the best experiences we could have asked for. Tucked in the Eastern Sierra’s in the Inyo National Forest, Mammoth Lakes is year round adventureland with endless opportunities for exploration and outdoor activities. Fishing, hiking, mountain biking, snowboarding, kayaking, paddleboarding...you name it. I have visited during the summer and winter months, but this was my first trip in the fall and it was simply amazing. We spent four days camping at New Shady Rest Campground and went out for adventures every day. Fishing, hikes, and picnics by the stream followed by lunch and beers at the local brewery (Mammoth Brewing and Distant Brewing are two good spots) consumed most of our afternoons. If you’re looking for a relaxing way to enjoy the sunset, head out to the numerous hot springs just south of town off the 395.If you’re looking for an easy hike that the entire family can enjoy, check out the McLeod Lake Trail. It’s about a ½ mile to the lake that greets you with pristine views and clear water. It’s not often you get an entire lake to yourselves. I’ve been countless times, and each time I am still in absolute awe of the beauty and scenery these mountains provide.
