We went on a mission to create the perfect merino sun hoodie. Light and breathable for warm days, comfortable through cool mornings, and soft enough to wear under warmer layers in winter. Something you could wear for days between washes and trust to hold up to real outdoor use.
The magic is in getting the blend just right. Ultra-fine, no-itch merino naturally resists odor and helps keep you comfortable as temperatures swing from cold to hot and back again. Tencel, a fiber made from wood pulp, helps manage moisture and gives the fabric a cool, silky feel against your skin. A touch of nylon adds strength and durability, so you get the comfort and performance of merino in a fabric built to last.
UPF 30+ fabric and a light, single-layer hood keep you covered on sunny days. When you start heating up, four snaps at the chest let you open things up for more airflow.

Wash / Care Instructions
Wash cold on gentle and air dry. If using a dryer, do not use heat to keep your Merino gear dialed for countless wears.
We engineered our Merino gear to last and to handle real miles, real sweat, and real outdoor pursuits, but the nature of Merino means high heat dryers and rough wash cycles can shorten its life.

I traveled with this for a few weeks in a hot, humid environment and just rinsed it out in water a few times to keep it fresh but it never got smelly like a good merino! Fabric is nice and soft.

I wore this for a weekend in the Rockies when temps were in the 80s and the sun was fierce. It kept me from getting fried and didn't make me overheat. Then it did a good job of warding off the chill in the mornings. The best part was no stink after days of sweating in it, unlike a lot of the polyester hoodies. I'll be picking up another one in a different color soon!

Allow me to start this review with a direct quote from the tag of the Ketl Lost Boys Merino Sun Hoodie.
“Lucky for you, we designed this garment to be fully mistreated, worn hard, washed & dried incorrectly…. Made in China”
After one wash, this hoodie has already shown signs of disintegrating. Small holes appeared in multiple spots. Having barely owned this thing for 2 weeks, I now have to baby this thing for fear of the delicate fabric getting any worse.
What else should I have expected from your typical over-priced-made-in-China slop.
A word of advice to Ketl, don’t advertise to mistreat your $130 articles of clothing when they can barely hold up in a simple wash.
I propose a simple revision of your tags.
“Lucky for you, this article of clothing was made in China and was designed to fall apart at the mere thought of adversity. But really, do not place upon body, gently kiss before tucking into bed, and place in a display case to look back upon saying, “if only you weren’t so weak,” before going out into the real world.”
On a positive note: Ketl is the only company that makes a decent sun hoodie, albeit delicate. Don’t even bother with the competitors.
Generally very satisfied. Feels great against the skin. I used the hoodie as a base layer on the West Highland Way in Scotland. It was always warm enough (depending on the situation, worn with a fleece and a wind layer) and I didn’t overheat, even on climbs. Even after several days, the smell was still tolerable. The hood is very loose-fitting. So I had my local tailor sew on an extra button. It doesn’t look perfect, but it meant the hood stayed on my head even in strong winds. It would be great if Ketl could incorporate this in a future version. A few threads have come loose along one seam after just a few washes. However, I don’t think this will affect how it performs.
Zero smell after a nasty, hot, humid run by a Clydesdale who sweats more than he runs! :] I know merino regulates temps well, but I put this shirt through an unrelenting hot, humid XC practice and recovery run. The shirt was soaked after about 5 minutes and actually helped keep me a little cooler. I am very impressed but how well it performed after that run. I hung it up to dry and a day or two later there was zero sweat smell or stink. I wore it again and had the same results. The shirt is well made and has a great fit and finish. I like the 4-button front as it allowed me to get more airflow when on the move. I am eyeing the No-Fry 4-button next. The easter eggs in random places are a nice touch. Keep up the good work!
This is a great sun hoodie. The weight and thickness is perfect for both warm weather and cooler hikes. I’ve worn it for a multi-day backpacking trip and it has held up great and dries pretty quickly. The only complaint I have is I wish the merino content was a little higher. It is only about 50% and I would prefer it to be more like 75-80. That said, the blend is good and hopefully will hold up for at least a few years.
I bought the merino sun hoodie for my husband and he loves it, especially the front snaps. He also has the synthetic sun hoodie. So far it’s been great for shoulder season hiking and dries fast. No smell so far after a sweaty weekend of hiking!

Lightweight, soft, and very breathable. Surprisingly durable so far, too! I have taken this hoodie on three hikes so far and it has held up well. It breathes well and is comfortable to wear. The shirt has shown no signs of pilling in areas under my pack. It also survived a rough brush against tree bark when I fell during a descent (I survived). Overall I’m very happy with the purchase.
Great fit. I love the color of the dust/brown version. Backpack straps won’t leave marks, but the color is light enough that it should absorb too much heat.
Keep in mind, this is thin merino. If you are looking to stay cool but still looking put together enough for lunch out, this is a perfect product.
This is the best Merino Sun Hoodie I have tried yet. It's not so thin that it feels weak, and surprisingly, what I've put it through so far has proved to be quite durable. It's just that perfect weight to wear. It never really feels thick and heavy when it's hot, but also still kind of makes you feel like it's keeping you a little bit warm when it gets cold. Perfect shoulder-season sun hoodie. Also love the Four-Snap design because when it is actually hot, popping all those things open makes a huge difference. Really pumped to see KETL making Merino stuff because all their other stuff is so good.

I have to say that I was a little skeptical at first. But after receiving this sun hoodie, I was absolutely impressed. Fit and finish is spot on. I'm 6'1" and the large fit perfectly. It's light enough to feel breezy, but feels durable enough that I'm not going to accidentally rip it. I'm thinking about picking up a 2nd one in a different color I like it so much. Good job Ketl!!
