Storm Rider 3L All-Weather Shell Jacket - VF Series

This jacket has excellent water resistance and is still breathable despite being very durable. Have taken it rappelling, fishing, crabbing and hiking in various weather conditions. It has taken rock abrasions, been poked by tree branches and weathered sap/pitch exposure. I've happily tested this in the CA backcountry for about a year and it still looks just like the day I bought it. I have no doubt this jacket will last many years to come.

I'll start this review off by saying I've had two other name brand rain shells and both have left me wet and cold at one point or another. This is definitely the most expensive jacket I've ever purchased and the nicest by far. The fit and finish on it is amazing and inspires confidence as soon as you put it on. I'm very much into outdoor hiking and backpacking among other things and this jacket is going to be my new outer shell. I will update this review in a few months as I'll be completing a 5 day 4 night backpacking trip through Colorado, but I did just get back from a week long trip to Iceland and I was really happy to have this jacket. The DWR coating on this is amazing and sheds water like a ceramic coated car! Not to mention for a jacket that's much thicker than my last two shells it breathes better than them somehow thanks to the pit zips and the pockets doubling as added ventilation. I wish these guys made women's clothes so I could get my wife one of these because this is quality craftsmanship and I can't wait to get it back out in the elements again to further test it!

Hi, Ketl mountain guys. Your storm rider jacket is awesome!!! The stitching, the inner taped seams and the zippers all show incredible workmanship. I've had great shells in the past and I believe yours is the best. I was wearing it the day after I received it in a pretty good rain storm and I was completely dry after an hour and a half in the downpour. This shell is the best combination of high durability, light weight and minimalist design that I have seen. I checked out all the major companies looking for the right new shell and I promise you I picked the best one......yours. Thank you, Ketl Mountain guys. Keep up the great work.
PS the venting through the pockets was a great touch.

So far, it’s doing everything well. I’ve alpine skied 7 days in New England, sub-zero and single digits and wind. It layers comfortably and the hood fits right for the chairlift ride. Zippers are easy pulls with mittens. Then 10 days of Alpine skiing in CA, sun, sun and more sun, temps as high as 50. Venting and light weight make all the difference. I would consider a different color but can’t say enough about what I like about the fabric and finish. The seams/construction is first rate.

I'll start out by saying this jacket looks and feels very high quality- top notch. It gives the impression of outstanding value. I like how it is flexible, stretchy, and doesn't sound like a tarp when moving. Gives me confidence to feel I will be protected in the worst of weather and will not be easily damaged by brush or abrasions. Plenty of room to layer and feature rich.

Getting into the concerns- I do wish the front didn't taper so high compared to the back. For a jacket intended to be used in the snow I feel it needs to come down further. I'm tall at 6'4", bought a large, and the front is just barely enough in my opinion. Sleeves and back are plenty long but the front still exposes my midlayers by an inch or so. This does not match with measurements on the website. I have the Escapade jacket from KETL which is listed as being shorter than this one but is actually the same in the back but longer than this one in the front when trying them on together. I expected this one to be longer in both front and back. Lastly, the taped seams need some attention. On one side under one of the arms there were 2 places where the seam tape was coming up which indicates it was not applied with the level of care it needed. I will try to fix but would have sent it back if I didn't have the guarantee from KETL that they'll repair their products for their lifetime.

Have not pushed it to the limits yet but first impressions are excellent.

-Fit and finish
-Hood fits perfectly over ski helmet

Lows:
-Oversized fit
-No external chest pocket
-No internal drop pocket

A perfect do-it-all shell would fit a little trimmer and have more pockets. I like L in my other Ketl jacket but feel like I’m swimming in this unless I have layers underneath. Luckily I intended this to be my heavier winter shell and it will do well for that.

Nice jacket it wicker’s water nicely and has a lot of vents including in the pockets. Only thing I would’ve liked is a chest pocket. Best 3L jacket for price and don’t forget the lifetime warranty for repairs

Like everything that Ketl makes, it doesn’t miss a beat. Seemingly plain , the jacket is elegant in its simplicity. It somehow feels like putting on a coat of armor and at the same time, has a comfy softness. I wore the jacket (with a light puffy underneath), in heavy snow, zero degree temps and 30 mph wind and stayed warm and dry. At the same time, when the sun came out and it got warmer, it clearly could breathe and this was without opening any pit zips. I know it’s as good as jackets from trendy companies that are double the price. And in the ski lift lines in a sea of Arcteryx and Stio, I felt like I had an inside track to something muchvl more unique.

Exactly what i was looking for. The arm pit zips aret he best.

it is a great jacket, it is just miss breast and sleeve pockets. those are a must for me. but everything else is great; the fit, stretchy, great shell

 I've been wearing this thing doing all sorts of stuff for the last four weeks this winter but mostly just using it as a general everyday shell in bad weather and also every weekend for some casual ski laps.

It's just awesome how nice this thing is and its price point. If you pick this up next to a $900 Arc'teryx jacket, you would tell no difference and they perform equally well but this is less than half the price.

This is probably just a credit to KETL being a smaller newer brand but wow this is an impressive product and they knocked it out of the park with this one

Seriously impressive. Every aspect of this jacket is dialed in. Zero restriction of movement, perfectly adjustable breathability, doesn't compress my insulated layer but also has the fit and enough srtucture to hold it's shape and look great over just a t-shirt. In the rain it feels like it floats over you while still being substantial and completely protective. I have arc'teryx and thrudark shells that are amazing and i have nothing bad to say about them, and this is even better.

Storm rider coat XL was too big but exchange process is tops. Waiting for the RockyLoft coat in L to be available (black please).

New merino hoodie is amazing.
