The magic is in the near weightless fabric. Our NoFry Sun Hoodie weighs in at only 104g in a size medium. 81g for the short sleeve and 105g for the long sleeve. The fabric itself comes in at just 79gsm.
The thin, breathable fabric allows the shirts to pack down incredibly small & feel weightless on the body. Ideal for adventure travel or any long day in the sun.
These shirts dry incredibly fast and wick moisture making them perfect for every possible outdoor activity and making it easy to rinse and hang dry when needed.
Topped off with discrete thumb holes on the long sleeve and hoodie versions to keep the sun off your hands and the sleeves in place on windy days.

Fabric Details
Crafted from a unique, high-performance grid-knit poly (79gsm). It’s lightweight, breathable, and quick-drying, with a subtle texture that boosts airflow and comfort.
Soft, stretchy, comfortable and designed for sun-soaked missions when the heat’s on the sun is sharp.
Anti-odor control from HeiQ Mint. The gold standard in the outdoor industry for plant based, effective odor control on performance fabrics.
Because this fabric is intentionally built to feel extremely light and airy, it should be treated with a little more care than heavier fabrics. Avoid direct contact with Velcro, sharp edges, and abrasive surfaces to help prevent snags or pilling.

Wash / Care Instructions
To extend the life of this ultralight fabric, wash inside out and avoid washing with Velcro, open zippers, or anything abrasive that could snag or pill the fabric.
You don’t need to baby it, but because NoFry is intentionally built to feel nearly weightless and breathable, it deserves a little more care than heavier fabrics.
Hang dry when you can to help maintain the soft, barely-there feel.

Awesome hoodie! I wore this for a few trail runs in Moab in July and it did exactly what it was supposed to. Provided great sun protection, and dried quickly.
Loving this hoodie so far! I’ve run in the upper 80s with full sun and the upper 40s with rain and some in between and it has been great in all conditions. Paired with a hydration vest, I’m really enjoying it!
I wore the NoFry Hoodie for the entirety of the 2026 Hardrock 100 Endurance Run and was pleased with its performance. As advertised, it kept me from burning at higher elevations. I did feel the breeze go through the fabric, which was quite welcomed. The snaps did help to regulate heat. The sleeves stayed in place without using the thumb holes. A bonus was that the hoodie did not ride up under my Salomon hydration vest. Afterwards, I did not observe any damage to the hoodie, just staining holding memories.
I own a medium, and I am 5'10" and 170 pounds. The fit is perfect.
The Sun Hoodie is extremely lightweight; however, it provides more than adequate protection from the Florida Keys sun. The snap feature helps secure the hoodie when boating and during onshore high winds. I am 6’ 3” and 220 lbs and purchased the XXL. The XL would have certainly fit, but the extra room provides for additional airflow, allows for unrestricted movement, and provides added comfort.
This shirt is magic! My husband started buying Ketl a couple years ago and now I’m buying their XS shirts because they’re better than any other brand I’ve tried. It’s like wearing nothing at all while being protected from harsh sunny rays
Loving the feet and feel of the fabric, will be living in this shirt!
Wore this on a 12 mile hike in Yosemite. Weather was in the 60s/70s, so nothing extreme, but this did a good job keeping the sun off and me cool. I really like the 4-snap, for a little more flexibility around styling and ventilation. I’m 6’4” 205 lbs, XL was the right size. Length is good, sleeves could be 0.5” longer, but they were long enough, and you’re probably not 6’4”.
Love this hoodie. Just as advertised. Really light weight and effective. My only small complaint … the snaps don’t lay flat
I compared the three-button sun hoodie to two other brands' sun shirts:
- the Outdoor Research Echo Sun Hoodie
- the Outdoor Vitals Long Sleeve Sun Shirt
In my opinion the fabric for all of these three options feels almost exactly the same. They all feel extremely light, moisture-wicking, and cool. I don't think there's a shirt material that feels cooler. Now it doesn't feel as cool as a short-sleeve shirt but if you're in the scorching sun after a while, in my opinion, even though maybe it feels a little bit warmer in the long sleeve, I still feel more comfortable than getting pounded by the sun
My favorite two are these are this three-button hoodie and the Outdoor Vitals Sun Shirt. The Echo is actually great for people who have different needs than I do. The sleeves on the Echo are long enough to where you can actually use the thumb holes comfortably. However I got these shirts for pickleball so the long sleeves actually made the whole experience much worse inthe Echo because the sleeve would bunch up past my wrist, where I was holding my pickleball paddle. The Kettle Sun Hoodie's sleeves are shorter, which is what makes them better for me but it also means that the thumb holes aren't very useful. I wish they would just make it without the thumb holes and then maybe make the wrist part of the sleeve a little bit more snug. That's pretty much how the Outdoor Vitals long sleeve shirt is. It has no thumb holes and it has a slightly more snug wrist so it fits me perfectly for pickleball.
The downside of the Outdoor Vitals line is that they the hoods shirts aren't offers with any buys. I didn't even bother trying the Outdoor Vitals option because I know from trying the Echo hoodie that I don't like those hoods that feel very enclosed.
Ideally it'd be nice if Kettle had two options:
- one with longer sleeves and thumb holes
- one with no thumb holes and basically the same length of sleeve
The length of the sleeve is actually good for no-thumb-hole use but the wrist could be a little bit more snug.
I'm a bikepacker. I spend long hours in the sun, day after day. I've tried a lot of hoodies. I can honestly say that the NoFry Sun Hoodie is my favorite. The fabric is magically cool, and I love the snaps.
This sun hoodie is awesome, the buttons in the front are great, it’s definitely one of the most breathable hoodies out there!! The color is also really cool. We will be buying more
I’m 6’4” and 200 pounds, mostly torso. I tried a dozen different suns hoodies and all of them had something that made them unwearable. Most of the SPF 50 were too stuffy. Others were too short….or too tight in the sleeves. I do wish they had tall sizes, but this one is an athletic cut, just long enough on the sides. Plenty of length on front/back. Cooler than short sleeve quick dry products and the SPF is plenty for me. Been wearing in the pool and it dries quicker than rash guard. Really like the 4 button design. I am going to buy another because I want to wear this one every day and I’ve been having to do laundry more than I’d like!
Very lightweight and breathable. I see a good amount of light passing through the fabric but only time will tell if I get a tan or sunburn. Only issue is the length is catered to average and above average height. I’m 5’3” so I either have to hem it or rely on my pants to hold it up.
